Siyeon And Handong Lead Dreamcatcher Content Charge In May With Memorable Performances
As summer in 2026 approaches, two of Dreamcatcher's members hit the stage, providing fans with much-needed music and performances.
As we head into a busy May where there are tons of girl groups in K-Pop with comebacks (at least seven I can count, including high-profile groups such as ILLIT, aespa, LESSERAFIM, and ITZY, the return of I.O.I and more, my very biased thoughts turn to Dreamcatcher, whose separate projects have produced waves of content over the past year. That of course doesn't mean that fans don't get nervous - subunit UAU, for example, will soon be nearing one year since their debut, and only small signs that they'll soon return to the stage are apparent.
Most of you who read me know I tend to fall on the optimistic side of things, so while I know people are jonesing for an eventual full group Dreamcatcher get-together with new music, and others just want to make sure everyone else succeeds, part of what is appealing to separate projects is seeing folks on different timelines and promotion periods. Combine that with the fact that we're seeing Dreamcatcher members get to spread their wings a bit with their projects and you get a content cadence that is somewhat consistent, but which is punctuated by individual bursts of activity. Insofar as the track record of other groups who may simply fade away or do other things out of the public eye, Dreamcatcher is doing pretty good right now, even if a full group comeback is a bit further down on the horizon - and two members in particular are currently doing the heavy lifting.
Here's what Dreamcatcher's been up to lately!
A decent amount of what Seoyul's content has been on the Gahtoni channel has been about food, so it's no surprise that we saw a food tour through Osaka pop up on YouTube. While I think this content is generally standard for most channels from idols, I'm always interested in the cultural variety and vibe for when we see a lot of different dishes. I've been to Osaka only for a little while, but a lot of what Seoyul was sampling are things I'm listing for whenever I make it back out there. And of course, as someone curious about both making and having food, it was great to see all the closeups. Friend trips that Seoyul takes always seem to generate a bunch of content, so I look forward to more on this front.
Speaking of standard stuff, I know that I mentioned SuA having most of that type of content on her recently, but that wasn't the case with her latest video. In a blatantly hilarious bit of bribery, SuA got her brother to agree to have her niece and nephew on for a mukbang, or eating broadcast, while asking questions. This actually isn't the first time that SuA's immediate family have been on camera - a 2023 TV interview with them for one of SuA's festival performances with Dreamcatcher took care of that - but it is the first time we've seen on-camera significant interactions, too.
There's a little bit of that SuA energy in her immediate family, and a bit of that variety humor that's made SuA one of Dreamcatcher's best aces when it comes to that kind of content. It's honestly worth it for just the marriage question and appearance fee portions of the video. I know there were some privacy concerns about not "mosaic'ing" the kids' faces (something SuA even joked about ensuring they knew about beforehand) but in the end, SuA's the veteran artist in K-Pop and her family knows the score, so I'll leave it to them to deal with.
The public eye has been squarely on two Dreamcatcher members in particular these past couple of weeks, with Handong being one of these. Unsurprisingly, she was booked to appear at Modern Sky's annual Strawberry Music Festival, the flagship event of the company that has essentially become their entertainment bread and butter for China and beyond. Making her solo festival debut was a great way for more eyes to get on Handong and her songs (as well as a couple covers to fill out the forty-ish minute set as well). Fanchant videos were released for three songs on Handong's debut album, but she also got a chance to perform singles like "Fairy" as well.
Between the festival and the consistent stream of content on Weibo, Douyin, Xiaohongshu, and more, which include vlogs of how Handong celebrated her birthday, regular lives, and short videos, Handong continues to be hard at work generating content not just for her brand and soloist aspirations, but for Dreamcatcher fans who just want to see members of the group in their element performing. With Modern Sky continuing to back her, I have no doubt we'll see more of that from Handong in the near future.
I feel like every time I publish late, like I am with this article, someone from Dreamcatcher decides to come out with something surprising right after I hit send. This time around, Siyeon's band ChRocktikal decided to drop a single release, titled "Navi", a blend of traditional Korean and hard rock that dropped on the 23rd. This was just a delightful surprise - not only did we get another entry into the quickly-growing ChRocktikal discography, but we also heard the band's versatlity to come up with something really cool-sounding that hybridized two genres that you normally wouldn't put together. I enjoyed it a lot, and it's earned a place on my playlist for the forseeable future.
ChRocktikal's own future is on the touring road, as the band set off on massive tour that will last from May until mid-June through North America. The Siyeon-fronted rock group started out their journey in Tampa, Florida and delighted fans with a set of their recently released songs, some nice surprises (like a cover of Dreamcatcher's 2019 title track "PIRI", and some funny moments. Additionally, the ments from Siyeon and company appear to be in 100% English, a testament to the hard work done to connect with foreign fans and a way to feel a closer connection to them. The shows themselves have the same indie band feeling that the group started out with back home in Seoul, and an opportune $1 flash sale from promoter Leo Presents sought to bring over casual rock fans wanting to take in a fun show. If their first two shows in Tampa and Atlanta are any indication, fans will be in for a great time.
It'll be a long road as ChRocktikal makes their way across the continent for the next month and a half, and for that news and more, I'll be following along. Don't forget to subscribe below if you don't want to miss updates on Dreamcatcher!
