Dreamcatcher UAU Continue Fan Interactions And Engagement Through August

The heart of the K-Pop industry is the way in which fans forge connections to artists, oftentimes through interactions and events that help provide a sense of community that exists between artists and their audiences. And while some of what is essentially a bit of parasocialism can go to extremes that aren't great, I'd say that the vast majority of these connectivity events or interactions are generally harmless and are part of making artists and fans engage with one another, even of those engagements are brief.

As the main part of promotions (those involving music shows or variety appearances and the like) taper off, fan signs, fan meetings, and similar events pick up the torch to keep a comeback/new release period going. Is part of the motivation making a bit more cash? Certainly. But I also think that, especially for groups that aren't as big, a bit more accessibility is never a bad thing.

Lately, of all that Dreamcatcher members, we're seeing Dreamcatcher subunit UAU carry these fan events forward as their "GENE" era continues, so let's take a look at what they've been up to!

Last year, UAU took their show on the road with a tour through North America during which they did fan concerts, generally seen as events with a mix of musical performances and variety games/fan interactions. With a slightly bigger discography and more seasoning as a subunit under their belts, UAU decided to stick around the home front for the summer this year, giving fans in Seoul a fan concert show of their own. Some of the games, like the Q&A, brought back those early Dreamcatcher days when games featuring questions on a board provided a bit of fun for the audience, while others, like the O/X type games, used modern technology. But it was also nice to have basically the entirety of the subunit's discography performed as well, especially with the new album tracks still pretty fresh.

But there was also new stuff as well, which showed up in the form a few covers. One of those making the rounds was a cover of "When I Grow Up" by the Pussycat Dolls, and I can't even fathom why I hadn't thought about that group before as one of the best and most fitting ones for UAU to cover. The confidence of that song and its aggressive choreography seemed made for UAU to pick up, and delighted the live crowd and those checking out the show via fancam.

The group's successful Seoul Fancon and video call events to keep up with fans continued through the first part of August, but there was also another Dreamcatcher member birthday to celebrate as well. SuA had the obligatory birthday livestream for an hour-plus, and as always I feel like she's been carrying the "do an activity on stream" thing for birthdays for a while now. This time around, SuA was determined to decorate her own multi-layer birthday cake. This isn't the first time around she's been working with a cake, as her and Seoyul had done this before (with a ton of laughter) a few years back, so there was a bit of prior experience to draw upon. It turned out pretty good, and of course there was a lot of that trademark SuA laughter throughout the stream.

SuA's also been keeping up the behind-the-scenes content with more candid vids and fun times from the subunit's "GENE" promotions window, which paired up with the official Dreamcatcher channel's own media. Though the promotions were abbreviated this time around, UAU seemed to make the most of what they had and have a good time doing it, along with some of that trademark Dreamcatcher chaos.

I talked a bit last time about how Yoohyeon was doing a bit of the carrying when it came to appearances and the like, and she continued the trend by making a brief appearance on Weverse (during which she apparently failed to realize Handong was actually in the chat, to hilarious effect) and also by following JiU's appearance in China with one of her own. Titled "YOOcation", the fan meeting in Guangzhou was well-attended, filled with talk time (which included some Dreamcatcher Easter eggs) and a bit of performance work, and seemed to be great for both Yoohyeon and the fans involved. There's quite a few pictures from 1:1 snapshot time along with short video, and the coming days will likely uncover a few fancams as well, but it's nice to see that fans local to China and traveling from outside of it are giving Dreamcatcher members like Yoohyeon a lot of appreciation.

UAU's fan-focused events continue throughout August, prior to ChRocktikal picking up the Dreamcatcher member project banner in September, and I'll be reporting on that and all the latest from the group as always, so for all of that and more, I'll see you here next time!
