Dreamcatcher Heads West Through The US, Bringing Joy In D.C. And Chicago
Dreamcatcher's 2024 US tour began in earnest, moving them through the nation's capital in D.C. and Chicago with unforgettable memories along the way.
Tour time is always fun for Dreamcatcher and the fandom, not just because of all the generated media from the group's travels, but also because there's almost always something memorable. Whether it's something funny like SuA sneaking in a "Silent Night" beat drop into the last comments or something awesome to hear live like rocking B-side "Rising", there's no end to what you can watch and see - and that's not even counting if you're lucky enough to be able to go.
With ten shows in November, there will be no shortage of all this tour content, and Dreamcatcher headed into the early part of 2024's Luck Inside 7 Doors World Tour in the US with the energy only they can bring. Let's take a look at this and all the other news from the past week.
The Fallen Angels and Dreams of Angels photobooks have been arriving in fans' mailboxes for a while now, and as always they've received a good amount of positive feedback. It seemed inevitable that we were going to get a Dreamcatcher's Note for the behind-the-scenes for this shoot, and that's exactly what dropped this past week on the official Dreamcatcher YouTube channel.
There's been some talk in the community about the somewhat less complex setups and shooting locales for this set of concepts, but no matter what Dreamcatcher is given to work with, the results seem to turn out great. For their part, there was a lot of goofing around on set for this shoot with the group having fun with both the angel wings, the need to look bright and happy a day after doing a more serious concept, and more. From JiU's "character analysis" of SuA based on her photoshoot outfit to Handong and Gahyun messing around chasing each other on set to Yoohyeon doing yet another super close-up filming of the details of her eye makeup it seemed everyone had a good time despite a busy couple of days.
On the OST front, it looks like two more Dreamcatcher members are going to be able to get the opportunity to sing for a K-Drama. "Brewing Romance", which is about the relationship that between a master liquor salesperson and a brewery company CEO, is currently airing, and JiU and Yoohyeon are in the lineup for the soundtrack. The last OST track sung for a more romance-oriented K-drama was SuA's "Still With You" for Cafe Minamdang and the only other mult-Dreamcatcher member OST track was Siyeon and Dami's "Shadow" tracks for dark drama Dark Hole, so I'm curious to hear what JiU and Yoohyeon have in store for us, especially as they're no strangers to singing together.
All that said, the name of the game this past week was obviously everything happening outside of South Korea, as Dreamcatcher began the first few shows of their US tour. And as I said at the top of the article, there's always something seemingly unique to each show - in the case of Dreamcatcher's show in Washington, D.C., a fan brought in a banner featuring the group literally flexing. Most everyone found this to be creative and entertaining, though I couldn't help but notice Handong, who's talked about trying to lessen her muscle line but accepts fans like it, getting just a bit comedically embarrassed at her picture. All in all yet another memorable moment of many.
And of course "Silent Night" brought much of the entertainment during the evening in D.C., with the group using fan-made signs to signal at least one of the One More Times. Yoohyeon also introduced a funny dance she was taught to do in the club to discourage people from approaching her, which then turned into SuA dubbing the audience as fish due to the how the dance looked when everyone did it together during another beat drop. It's fun to see the "branding" each audience tends to get for a Dreamcatcher show and it shows how entertaining the live experience is.
There aren't that many older songs on this tour's setlist, but 2017's "Wake Up" remains on the song list with good reason - it's just a feel-good energetic song that gets everyone standing up, jumping around, and waving their hands. Even after performing it for seven years, Dreamcatcher approaches it with the same or greater hype level and it shows.
I am also liking the LED screen touches this time around as well. For "REASON" in particular, there's a nice touch with handwritten sticky notes from the members popping up on the screen while they're singing, a personal element to the theme of the song and a good way to close up the show. The extended, slow walkoff and goodbye at the end is a K-pop staple, but I do think Dreamcatcher has lots of feelings at the end of every show and is thankful to their international fans for supporting them from thousands of miles away.
Those of you who read me regularly know that I already put up an extensive write-up on the Chicago show, which I personally attended, and for this I'll just highlight a couple other fun moments, like SuA being chosen to show off her visual look and confidently doing so for the audience (but not before a couple of shenanigans here and there). SuA's extroverted nature really lends itself to the concert setting, and she remains my favorite member of Dreamcatcher just for situations like this and many other ments.
I also hadn't realized that there was a prompt for people to pull out their phone flashlights for "Fireflies". It's obviously pretty appropriate given the song's title, but it was still really cool to see them come out all at once and wave in (mostly) unison to Dreamcatcher's vocals on what has shot up to be one of my top 5 B-side ballads in their discography. Hearing the duets in this song live plus having this visual made it one of the best parts of the show.
And of course, if you want to see the full goodbye ment from all the members for Chicago, including when SuA clowned everyone, you can see them here. Aside from what I'd already mentioned, there were wholesome moments from Yoohyeon, who was thankful her career path led her to being on the stage, Gahyun, who talked about dreaming about being on the stage and then experiencing it for real, and Dami, who calculated that her total mileage on tour for seven years was enough to go around the globe nine times. Worth watching for sure.
There's a lot more tour to go with what will no doubt be more unforgettable moments, so for all that and more, I'll see you here next Sunday!
