As First Part Of 2023 Tour Approaches, Dreamcatcher Continues Content Releases

K-Pop — Dreamcatcher Recall

A final week of pre-tour preparation didn’t stop K-Pop’s Dreamcatcher from dropping in some content to keep fans engaged.

As someone who’s had some experience with working behind the scenes for events before, I know that the preparation for a tour is fraught with final tasks, practices, and fine-tunings. Oftentimes an artist is caught up in all the logistics, travel prep, and of course, performance work, but as we’ve come to expect from Dreamcatcher and Dreamcatcher Company, that hasn’t stopped them from giving fans more to chew on in terms of content. This past week was no exception, even if it was understandably a slower week by their standards.

Here’s what you may have missed in the last lead-up to Dreamcatcher’s 2023 World Tour kicking off in the US!

You might be wondering why I have a non-Dreamcatcher clip in here to kick things off, but it’s for a good reason. The group’s fancafe schedule on Daum confirmed that JiU and SuA hit the variety circuit once again, recording for long-time mainstay I Can See Your Voice season 10. The show works by having a panel and guest artists guess at whether or not a set of mystery singers can actually carry a tune and has been extremely entertaining over the years. While at minimum JiU and SuA are on the guest panel and will be helping with evaluations, it’d be a nice surprise if we saw some Dreamcatcher songs sung by mystery singers. Either way, we’re looking at a nicely timed set of promotions for the group, as the first couple episodes are slated to run right after the tour ends.

The official Dreamcatcher YouTube channel gave fans a double-helping of content this week, with Behind videos to wrap up the Europe tour as well as the 2022 Hanteo Music Awards, where the group took home the North American region’s Global Artist award. Dreamcatcher really seemed to enjoy their latest romp through Europe, with beer, sightseeing, and of course, the fans being among their favorite moments. And seeing that Dreamcatcher is having to think about what to say when accepting an award (as Yoohyeon had to do in the second video) is just a nice bit of progression for a group that until very recently hadn’t taken home any awards show hardware. Add that to some of the usual shenanigans (JiU’s constant snacking and Yoohyeon’s constant losing of her phone) and you had two very fun videos from things fans have wanted to hear about.

Handong dropped in her last two radio shows for Akdong Seoul before she takes a break for a month for travel due to touring, and fans got a nice treat by having both broadcasts (as opposed to just Monday’s) be video-viewable on the TBSeFM YouTube channel. Handong appears to be settling in quite nicely to her regular work, and her co-hosts and studio staff are already establishing a nice working bond. One co-host brought in their dog, which immediately but perhaps not surprisingly took a liking to Handong. I’ll be looking forward to more of what Handong brings to the show once she returns from the road.

As far as other members went, Yoohyeon and Siyeon both checked in with fans this past week, with Siyeon going almost 2 hours or so to make up for the lack of broadcasts from her lately. These were both pretty chill livestreams on Weverse, with Yoohyeon talking about wanting to do another gaming live stream, enjoying New Jeans songs with JiU (especially recent hit “Ditto”), and dropping in a few tidbits about stuff they’ve done before (such as her and JiU’s cover of “Monster” being pushed back due to scheduling). For her part, Siyeon talked about things like what it takes to be an idol, what she thinks about when she is wearing clothes for being filmed traveling from the airport, what shows and livestreams she’s been watching lately, and other casual things. I’ve always liked the casual livestreams, as they tend to give out little tidbits of detail about the members that you might not know or expect — and the vibe is very much like just having a conversation with a friend.

Speaking of friend talk, that’s exactly the mood that Dami was giving off when she put up an early birthday livestream (as her March 7th birthday falls during the tour). Setting up a “Dami Radio Show”, Dreamcatcher’s Main Rapper played a song or two, took viewer questions, and doled out advice about a whole host of things both personal and work-related. We also learned a couple new things about Dami, such as how she believes you shouldn’t compare yourself to others too much to maintain your confidence, that her dog lived to be almost twenty years old, and that she uses not both thumbs to text or type but one thumb and one index finger. In typical Dami fashion, this birthday livestream was pretty chill, and while that was totally an expected thing, I was pleased at the radio show format. There’s quite a few stories where Dami served as a calming presence to fellow members or fans, and I could totally see her finding her niche on a talk-type advice radio show — though I have a feeling she feels pretty passionately about her music and making it first and foremost.
