Dreamcatcher's Return To Latin America Filled With Excitement And Appreciation
Dreamcatcher wrapped up their Latin America tour with two high-energy performances with a passionate audience that's waited to see them for six years.
As someone who resides in one of the most desirable and visited regions in the world when it comes to K-Pop touring, I realize the privilege I have for seeing live acts. Just this Fall, I have my choice of no less than four or five. And when it comes to Dreamcatcher, I'll be seeing them for the fourth time in two months.
Yet for other regions it's a lot tougher. Whether it be due to a lack of local organizer, sponsor, or venue interest, or it not being logistically possible from a company or promoter standpoint, Latin America has had challenges getting Dreamcatcher to come back since their tours in 2017 and 2018, when the group made the bold decision to tour outside of South Korea before they'd established a name for themselves (though we now know doing just that was part of the point). K-Pop artists are always happy to bring their music to as wide an audience as possible, and it wasn't for lack of wanting to return that it hadn't been happening.
So when Dreamcatcher announced their return to the LATAM region for September 2024, it was met with plenty of joy from local fans. The negotiations, it seemed, took almost half a year or more from the time JiU first mentioned in a variety appearance that they were in contact with organizers in the region, but as we saw from last week's fancam footage, to many fans who ended up in any or all of the Latin America stops, it was well worth the wait.
Here's what happened last week as Dreamcatcher trekked through Latin America!
The Dreamcatcher official YouTube channel wasn't idle this past week while the group was out and about, first dropping in their annual Chuseok greeting. I'd forgotten that this year, Dreamcatcher was spending the South Korean holiday essentially working, and this greeting was no exception, appearing to have been filmed on the day of their appearance in Istanbul.
Second was individual member content, this time from Lead Vocalist Yoohyeon. The second in her "What are YOO Doing" series dropped in a nice, quiet, ASMR-driven study session with what appeared to be her studying up on her English comprehension. Normally, 90 minutes of no speaking with only the silent white noise of studying wouldn't be the most compelling content, but watching (or having on in the background) Yoohyeon's diligent work is mean to be motivation for fans in similar situations. The setting was relaxing and the visual was, as always, on point, and it was a reminder to me, at least, that I need to get back to working as hard on my Korean language study as Yoohyeon works on her English, so I can appreciate it.
In future plans news, Dreamcatcher was confirmed by official organizers to be present at the 30th Dream Concert, with updated news about offline tickets being open for purchase this week. With a bunch of later generation groups and acts appearing, Dreamcatcher's place in this particular lineup is that of respected seniors - not too big of a surprise considering, as I said last week, that this will be their 5th appearance, and one where they'll be recognized for winning the Dream Visual award for female artists. Prior Dream Concerts have had livestreaming for purchase, so hopefully international fans will also get their chance at seeing Dreamcatcher burn up the stage at yet another year of the event.
All that said, the main event of last week's Dreamcatcher news was them bringing that same stage presence back to the other two stops in the Latin America tour in Brazil and in Chile. For six years, it seemed as if local fans, in particular, had been saving up all their energy and passion for a Dreamcatcher return, and let it all out in over two-hour sets filled with the group's updated 2024 performance setlist and a lot of fun moments. The singalong with Dreamcatcher's acapella version of 2019's "Deja Vu" should have been an obvious example of Latin American fans' dedication to the group despite the long gap between visits.
If there was any doubt to the energy of Latin America fans, look no further than the multiple dance drops of what has become a staple of Dreamcatcher concerts in 2019's "Raid of Dream" b-side "Silent Night". The concert-ready version of the song has had a remixed beat drop added to the end of it that allows for it to be repeated multiple times in creative ways, and in Brazil, they did it 12 times in total. I feel like I have decent cardio and even I don't think I could have kept up with jumping around as much as fans in Latin America did. It was pretty impressive.
Not to be outdone by Brazil, Chile brought the same energy to much of Dreamcatcher's concert set, especially to their recently released hits. I think we're going to see a bunch of people working to try to sustain those high note "fight" lyrics for future performances and it just goes to show, to me, that the songs Dreamcatcher and their producers put together seem to always have the live concert performance potential in mind. Even with missing Main Rapper Dami throughout the LATAM tour due to her needing rest, the group's live performance of their latest tracks still carried the power fans have come to expect from one of K-Pop's most well-traveled groups.
Chile also got a special treat as well - the early celebration of Siyeon's birthday in October, a nice surprise for Dreamcatcher's Main Vocalist and a fun way to have welcomed her back to active performance over this past month or so. This stuff is always fun because they provide a little something extra for your normal concert ments, and everyone, from Dreamcatcher to the fans, celebrating Siyeon should hopefully be a nice booster for her.
Dreamcatcher has returned home as of a couple of days ago and they'll have a brief break out of the public eye before heading back out to Europe for KCON Germany. As always, you can expect to hear the latest Dreamcatcher news and updates right here on The Low Key Geek, so for all that and more, I'll see you here next Sunday!
