The New Year always starts off a bit busier for Dreamcatcher as opposed to other K-Pop groups, as their anniversary is in January. Fresh off of their first solo Christmas concert series, it seemed that the group wouldn't miss a beat heading into 2025. That's not to say they didn't take a well-deserved break to round out the year, but if fans can count on anything with Dreamcatcher, it's that they've been always consistent with their content. Let's take a look at how they started 2025!

Along with Dreamcatcher having their Christmas concert, the group gave fans another new gift in the form of a brief year-end special series. The two-episode, three-part series looked to be a fun mini-variety show where Dreamcatcher made plushie doll gifts for each other and answered some fun and interesting questions while enjoying an end-of-year meal. This particular video was the last of the series, and had both funny moments and some touching ones, such as each member saying nice things about the one next to them. The series seemed to evoke a reflective tone overall of the group's long career in K-Pop, and fans were reminded why both chaotic and emotional moments have kept their fanbase loyal.

Some older behind-the-scenes content was also released this past week, including Season's Greetings filming from the late summer with Dreamcatcher's Dreamy Farm and A Dream Holiday as well as a Naver Post update from the group's Europe tour nearly a year ago. The farm filming was especially funny to me as Dreamcatcher's CEO has been quoted as being willing to open a cucumber farm and employ the group had they not been able to succeed after re-debut, so it felt a little bit like an alternate universe photoshoot for me. And while the blog posts on Naver have been a bit delayed, it's always nice to have reminders of the busy, globetrotting schedule the group has been on in 2024, and that for some reason, they always seem to be traveling when it comes time to celebrate Dami's early March birthday.

Speaking of birthdays, Yoohyeon's, as always, was in early January, and though an apparent recent wisdom tooth operation kept her from doing a huge amount for it, she did manage to drop into Weverse for a quick live thanking local fans for putting together fancafe events for her to visit (and to steal pictures from). Yoohyeon hinted at perhaps something in the future, but whether or not it would be another birthday gaming stream or something else entirely remains to be seen. For now, it was nice to see Yoohyeon in good spirits and being thankful for getting through another trip around the sun.

The group as a whole did get to meet fans this week as the aforementioned Season's Greetings fansign was held. As always it was interesting to see any Dreamcatcher member style changes, with Gahyun heading back to reliable black hair and Siyeon, Handong, and Dami all modifying their shades of blonde slightly. Photo time was as always a treat with "doctor" JiU and "rich" Handong being some of the highlights.

Yet with the group's 8th anniversary inbound, it seems Dreamcatcher will be meeting fans in plushie form. The activity of creating dolls with accessories from the group's Year-End special appeared to be an indirect spoiler, as this merchandise item seems to check off another box for Dreamcatcher's milestone achievements. Dreamcatcher's small company origins and popularity relative to other K-Pop groups has meant these have been "better late than never" goals, but plushies with representative animals are reliable sellers, if not cute additions to any fan's merchandise collection.

Curiously, SuA who it appears also helped draw and design the plushies, swapped to a black cat from her usual crowtit, a not-unusual change considering in 2023 and part of 2024 she's found the idea of a mischievous black cat fun and interesting. That said, on Fromm, SuA had to clarify that this was done in part to make them more uniformly dressable. This is understandable, given that bird types usually have wings and thin legs, but it also makes it unknown whether or not this change is permanent, or was done just for the plushie offering.

It's hard to tell what SuA read that triggered the need for her to speak about it, but because of that, it's probably best to follow her lead and not make a big deal out of it. This is especially true since this hasn't been the first time SuA's changed animals before (a 2019 live revealed that she liked elephants, her first associated animal, but preferred not to be represented by them, changing to the crowtit after she saw fans compare her to the small, energetic bird). Frankly, I'm just glad we have plushies that potentially could be both fun and a moneymaker for the group, so I'll be interested to see how they turn out when pre-orders open on anniversary day on the 13th.

We're highly likely to see more from Dreamcatcher this coming week as their 8th anniversary passes and fans, the company, and the group celebrate another year together as one of the most long-lived 3rd generation girl groups. As always, you can expect to see the latest news and updates reported right here on the The Low Key Geek, so be sure to subscribe below if you don't want to miss anything!
