Dreamcatcher Finishes Up Their 2024 US Tour, Looking Towards Holiday And Future Plans
Dreamcatcher headed home after yet another successful tour, with lots more to come on the horizon both for the end of 2024 and in 2025.
If you'll forgive me for veering off from Dreamcatcher for just a bit, I have to say that this past week has been pretty wild when it comes to K-Pop girl groups. With NewJeans declaring termination of contracts in an ongoing dispute with their own company, fromis_9 finishing up their contracts as of the end of 2024 as well as Loosemble, MADEIN shaken up by a recent set of disturbing allegations from a now-former member, and more, it's been a turbulent end of November. Combine that with an IDLE contract renewal and GFriend seemingly gearing up for a reunion in 2025 with their Weverse coming back online and it's been tough not to think about the status of groups in an often-volatile industry.
Regardless of what may or may not happen in the future for them, this is why I've appreciated the relative stability of a group like Dreamcatcher. I got this vision of that infamous scene above from "Community" as Dreamcatcher returned from being abroad in the US to all this news, which perhaps made them (and us as fans) count our blessings with the group. Dreamcatcher Company and its partners could always do better when it comes to supporting Dreamcatcher, but honestly, it could be a lot worse, and hopefully that puts things in perspective for fans.
With all that being said, Dreamcatcher wrapped up yet another successful tour and more, so let's check out how their last week in November went!
Dreamcatcher's 10th and last show of their 2024 US portion of their "Luck Inside 7 Doors" World Tour dropped in Atlanta, and as usual the group put on a great set of performances for attendees. While by now there were some of the expected usual shenanigans (such as getting the crowd to try to sing 2019's "PIRI" and all the fun "Silent Night" beatdrop encores), one of the more significant moments happened near the end of the concert during their last ment speaking to fans. JiU, apparently noticing a sign from a fan saying "let's grow old together", became suddenly emotional talking about being thankful for fans' support, something that seemed to even touch the translator emotionally.
There was the usual speculation about what this meant (especially as the statement was made about not being sure when the next US tour would be), but as I've always said, I don't think people should come to wild conclusions about the group's future based on what they assume from what happened here. We should, in my opinion, only operate based on the facts and official statements, and secondly, in a realm where fans have very little agency, it's best to have the mentality to enjoy a group like Dreamcatcher for however long we have them. So while the worry is understandable (especially given what I talked about in the opening paragraph of this article), I think it's best to stow that away and not be anxious over a couple minutes of what could simply be the emotional release of completing a long tour and seeing so many supportive fans.
I feel like this opinion I have regarding how we should approach Dreamcatcher was validated in part because we learned a bit about the future, things that it's better to redirect energy towards. One of these is the upcoming Christmas concert, and information about online streaming purchases through MyMusicTaste dropped and was available to buy this past week. There were a few hiccups regarding online purchases which I'm hoping have been seemingly cleared up by now, but the long and short of it is that there's options for light merchandise if fans want it, and the usual options for only having live access or having a 90-day delayed VOD for limited-time viewing. This concert happens in the wee hours of Christmas morning for me, but I was still down to purchase a Live + VOD pickup and hope many more fans decide to tune in.
In case there wasn't enough incentive to drop by for a holiday concert, interesting news potentially connected to it dropped via the 1thek official account on X/Twitter. Traditionally the K-pop media channel drops in an infographic with groups and artists making comebacks for a month, and Dreamcatcher, interestingly, is listed.
The group's schedule has been pretty packed from September onwards (Latin America tour - Europe - North America) so a full-on comeback cycle with an album promotion seems unlikely given the lack of free time to prep. Yet a curious set of comments from Gahyun seem to resonate here, as she said on Fromm that people seem to be expecting remixes of Christmas songs for their concert and they don't seem to be expecting an original song. Could this mean that this listing shows Dreamcatcher has a Special Holiday Single up their sleeves? Given that THE BOYZ and Chungha are also listed here with similar singles, it seems likely Dreamcatcher falls into the same category with something they may have been prepping anyway for their upcoming concert. We'll have to see in the coming weeks, but this is nevertheless exciting news for fans.
Last, but perhaps not least in the "don't worry about Dreamcatcher's future" column, however, is the confirmation of plans in 2025. BoxLiveAU, a local promoter who's worked with K-Pop acts, dropped in a super-obvious teaser that turned out to be Dreamcatcher heading back to the land Down Under in March of 2025, to both Melbourne and Sydney.
The group hasn't been back since 2019 to the OCE region, and more importantly, they're fulfilling a long-made promise to return to Melbourne in particular after an unfortunate fire at their intended venue cancelled their concert plans. For fans local to the area who've long-awaited their chance to see Dreamcatcher live, including /u/SpideyCyclist, who toils endlessly with a team of moderators to run the long-standing Dreamcatcher fan subreddit, this is wonderful and deserved news.
I've always felt that every region, if they can, should get a chance to see Dreamcatcher live at least once, and to do so regularly. The realities of tour planning and viability sometimes get in the way of that, but in this case, having BoxLiveAU and Feng Yu step up to the plate to bring Dreamcatcher back to Australia has helped make their return a reality. More importantly, it's pretty much guaranteed that we'll see Dreamcatcher in 2025 as they roll onward. As they do, you can always expect me to cover all the latest from the group, so for all that, and more, I'll see you here next Sunday!
