ChRocktikal And Dreamcatcher Members Continue Content Drip As March Rolls Onward
Dreamcatcher's individual projects continue forward in March as content on a smaller scale keeps fans up-to-date.
I was reflecting recently on the kind of K-Pop fan that I am, and the reason why I tend to be a follower of small to mid-tier K-Pop acts rather than those from the big companies. There's lots of factors that go into this, but I think one of them is that smaller acts tend to do interesting, sometimes unexpected things insofar as their content. With few expectations to appear in some of the "normal" channels or outlets to promote themselves, acts like Dreamcatcher have historically relied on smaller scale projects and the collection of those in aggregate to build their brand.
The early days of Dreamcatcher were filled with such appearances, and even though the clout of smaller-scale channels like Fact in Star was not as big as appearing on Knowing Bros or Amazing Saturday, they still produced memorable moments that people still occasionally link to today, after nine years of work.
Dreamcatcher's post-exclusive contract era is filled with some of this return to small-scale content, with the difference being that it's more individualized, or set to newer subunit or new project content, and more. The group together will always be the best overall, but what we've seen over the last year isn't so bad either, as members of Dreamcatcher spread their wings and show us what they can do in new projects.
Here's what we've seen lately from the group's members!
Special Clip drops from Dreamcatcher are always nice surprises, and even though Yoohyeon signaled that she'd filmed one in her livestreams and chats, it was still nice to see it drop. Covering "Bite Me" from ENHYPEN was well within Yoohyeon's wheelhouse, and she did it with all the aura that you'd expect someone who was supposed to encompass vampire concept would do, and with the style we've come to expect from Dreamcatcher's Lead Vocalist.
Covering "Bite Me" is more connected to Dreamcatcher than you might think. The major dialogue surrounding the timing of this release from Yoohyeon revolved around the recent news that member Heeseung was departing ENHYPEN due to what looked to be a difference of opinion on musical prospects/direction. But what some fans may not recall immediately was that Dreamcatcher's most recent music show win on Show Champion was achieved by doing so over "Bite Me" (along with a lot of other tracks from much better-resourced and bigger artists), so maybe you could kinda call this an inadvertent homage to a worthy music show opponent. Still, the important thing was that this was a great cover, and a nice addition to what I feel are a bevy of iconic Special Clips Yoohyeon has released over the years.
While it does take a bit to build up content that you feel you specialize in as Yoohyeon does, the pace at which Gahyun seems to be putting things out on her recently founded YouTube channel seems to be moving towards that. I've said this before, but all the years Gahyun spent essentially carrying Dreamcatcher vlog content has prepared her well for individually produced videos of her own, and she added to that this past week with an "out with friends" type video. Part of why I think K-Pop fans become interested in artists is seeing what relationships they established with fellow artists or others within their circle, and for various reasons, we don't tend to hear or see about them all the time. We've seen or heard about all the friendships Gahyun engages in with this video before, but it's nice to see them in action in vlog format.
Similarly, SuA's spent the last couple of weeks giving fans a peek into a couple personal bits of what goes into her idol-ready look and fashion, with videos showing off her expansive (and organized) walk-in closet and one of her makeup routines. It's no secret that being a K-Pop artist means being laser-focused on your public appearance, what you wear, and how you create an image for yourself, but these videos are a good insight on just how much effort it takes to do so.
This actually isn't the first time we've seen a SuA makeup routine - the 2019 video above from SuA's early vlogs has something pretty similar as her and JiU head out to take in the sights - but it's still a good reminder about the sheer time it takes to meet the personal standard she sets for herself. Always insightful, especially for someone like me who is largely ignorant of the ins and outs of makeup.
I started off this article talking about small-scale channels helping out acts of similar popularity, and Siyeon's indie band approach to ChRocktikal was well served these past couple of weeks by an appearance on PBLive, a relatively new Japanese YouTube channel that focuses on Korean artists. We got a nice rendition of B-side "KALish", with Siyeon doing her deep-seeded scream for the camera in a way that was very much metal. The track has become one of the places in the album that you knew ChRocktikal was leaning more in the hard rock/metal direction and it's a worthy choice for this content.
But the group wasn't done there. Besides a nice behind-the-scenes filming for the content in question, ChRocktikal treated us to a rock-ish cover of YOASOBI's iconic "Idol". Because a lot of folks, including myself, became aware of the song through short clips of the peppy chorus, I hadn't initially realized the song has hip-hop-ish elements with sudden pacing changes, so I knew looking at this that it might be a challenge for Siyeon and the rest of ChRocktikal to pull off. Yet that's exactly what they did. This band project has clearly put Siyeon in her desired element as a rock singer/frontwoman, and everyone else, from Wonseok's really awesome guitar solo to Junyoung's bass foundation in the slower parts to Gwanwoo's drum skills throughout, got their chance to shine.

Those chances are going to increase moving forward, as ChRocktikal has booked their ticket to the 2026 Sound Planet Festival in September in Incheon. I'm still waiting for that booking to JUMF, where I feel like they'll get a chance to shine in front of a traditionally rock fan-heavy crowd, but this and their upcoming tour kicking off in Seoul and then continuing through North America should do for now. With that coming up and more, you can count on me reporting the latest on the group as always, so I'll see you here next time!
